The Difference Between the Voices
The simple answer to telling the difference between the voices which we experience as our experience is that it takes discernment. The voice of your spirit, voice of the mind, the voice of spirits, the voice of the dead who, once free of a body, can influence the person—it is quite occupied, under the thin skin we perceive as our own thoughts.
That answer is the truth. Being able to tell the difference does require discernment and experience in states of consciousness.
We perceive our thoughts as a single, continuous stream, but it’s more properly a braid: a strand of my own consciousness, a strand of the dead, a strand from the lwa with me, a strand of visiting lwa or spirits of place. Weaving in and out, sometimes more, sometimes less, all feeding into our perception.
If you listen closely, if you know that you are not alone and that consciousness is not a single thing, the strands are distinct.
